COVID-19 pandemic put all international tournaments on hold and after eight months, the ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) brought table tennis back to the eagerly waiting fans. The tournaments are supported by the Chinese Table Tennis Association. The series of tournaments taking place in November are:

  • Dishang 2020 ITTF Women’s World Cup, November 8-10 in Weihai, China;
  • Dishang 2020 ITTF Men’s World Cup, November 13-15 also in Weihai, China;
  • Bank of Communications 2020 ITTF Finals scheduled for November 19-22 in Zhengzhou, China.

The 2020 ITTF finals are sponsored by Bank of Communications, hence the title. The Bank of Communications 2020 ITTF Finals is replacing the usual ITTF World Grand Tour Finals, which could not be held as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament is a combination of two major tournaments, Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles.

Sixteen men and women from 14 countries will be competing for the grand prize of $250,000.

How They Qualified

Playing System for the 2020 ITTF Finals

The tournament will consist of 2 events, Men’s and Women’s Singles.

Top 16 men and women according to the 2020 April World Ranking, with a maximum of 4 players per National Association.

Seeding shall be done according to the latest available world ranking.

Men’s and Women’s Singles

  • Will be conducted as knockout events
  • Draw will be conducted according to the ITTF Regulations
  • There will be no separation by Association
  • All matches shall be the best of 7 games

The tournament will be played in accordance with the Laws of Table Tennis and Regulations for International Competitions.
